In London, the Atheist Bus Campaign pushed back at what they believe are the shameless public displays of propagandizing by theists. They raised incredibly more donations than expected to poster the sides of hundreds of buses with: “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”
The reactions have been across the continuum, with one of the more supportive coming from the Methodist Church saying it welcomes the campaign as a way of inviting conversations about God. This is possibly the most intelligent reaction given how just the G word divides the world in hundreds of thousands of ways.
What the invitation does is encourage shared understanding, best defined as understanding each other's perspectives without necessarily coercing consensus. Without open dialogue, there can only be another century of unspoken fragmentation and competition on what or who it is we think may be "behind" it all. Perhaps then people can take and even share ownership for their definitions of this who or what.
